About Us

Dr. Nicholson and Dr. Gasser met at The University of Pennsylvania during their internship. They were married in 2003. Both are from northern Virginia and moved back home in 2005. They were blessed with a daughter in 2012 and have 3 dogs, Tatum, TJ and Julia, and 2 bunnies, Buddy and Blue.

Matthew Nicholson,
DVM, DACVS, CCRP

Dr. Nicholson graduated from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM) in 1999, and completed his internship and residency at The University of Pennsylvania. He received Board Certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004. Since 2003, he has been in private practice as an Associate Surgeon, and spent 2 years (2009-2011) as a Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery at VMRCVM. He became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner in 2014. Dr. Nicholson helped develop the small animal surgical practice and rehabilitation service at CARE Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia prior to opening Salutaris Veterinary Specialists, PLC with his wife in the Fall of 2017.

Angela Gasser Nicholson,
DVM, DACVIM

Dr. Gasser graduated from the Veterinary College at North Carolina State University in 1999, and completed her internship and residency at the University of Pennsylvania. She received Board Certification from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2004. She spent 13 years in private practice as a referral Internal Medicine Specialist, 2 years in a busy referral practice in New Jersey, and then 11 years (2005-2016) at The Hope Center in northern Virginia. She opened Salutaris Veterinary Specialists, PLC with her husband in the Fall of 2017, and now provides internal medicine consultation and ultrasound interpretation to local clinics in northern Virginia.
